General Counsel

Remote Location

Our client has retained Lighthouse Legal Search to conduct their General Counsel search.  This is a unique opportunity to join a cryptocurrency startup as a General Counsel.  Specific tasks include, but will not be limited to, directly advising the CEO on matters of corporate and financial regulations, negotiating with high-level players in the venture capital, finance, and blockchain industries, advising on the development of cutting-edge software and financial products, and tackling companywide issues of domestic and international corporate governance. No previous cryptocurrency or blockchain experience is required for this role, but a strong interest is preferred. A background in corporate law, securities law, financial law and/or international tax law is a plus.  The location of this position can be remote. 

Skills and experience desired: 

  • 5+ years of experience gained in large law firm and/or working in-house. 
  • Overall broad legal knowledge and interests (corporate law, litigation, etc.).
  • Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
  • Law degree from a recognized university. 
  • Member in good standing of a recognized bar association.

Trusts & Estates Attorney

Our client is seeking a 3rd-7th year Estate Planning Associate.  The focus of this role will be advising high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals and family businesses on tax, trust and estate, and business succession matters. The position will involve client contact, significant drafting of estate plan documents, and will include providing support to the firm’s estate partners.  

Skills and experience required:    

  • Experience drafting complex wills and trusts
  • Exposure to sophisticated wealth planning structures for international families
  • Some knowledge of income and transfer tax rules affecting non-U.S. residents with U.S. income and/or assets, and U.S. residents with foreign income and/or assets 
  • Some knowledge of rules applicable to income taxation of complex non-U.S. trusts and their beneficiaries
  • Experience with pre-immigration and expatriation planning a plus
  • Minimum 3+ years' of relevant law firm experience
  • Strong academic credentials (JD required; LLM is a plus)
  • Strong drafting, writing, research and communication skills
